About meeting new students and connecting with returning students at the KSSB Fall Kansas Trailblazers Weekend!

Family, Friends, Participant Information    

TSVIs & COMSs, along with KSSB’s super cool Instructional Assistants will lead activities that include: MakerSpace time, physical fitness events (including the KC Blind All Stars 5K Fun Run/1-mile Walk), and activities of daily living. Embedded skills will include access technology, orientation and mobility, and social skills, and other ECC domains.  Our entire team is looking forward to a fun-filled weekend for your young adult!

WEEKEND THEME:  ROCKIN, ROLLIN, AND RACIN’!

DATE OF EVENT: September 23-25, 2022

COST:  FREE — Space is LIMITED to 22 participants. Register EARLY!

WHO CAN ATTEND:  Any student, age 14-21 from Kansas with a diagnosed visual impairment. NOTE: Priority will be given to students who do NOT attend KSSB full-time during the academic year. KSSB students will be put on a waiting list by application date.

What should my child bring? 

  • If your child takes medications, they:
    • Must be in original containers with name of student
    • Must include dosage information

  • Signed 5k/1m waiver if not submitted already.

  • Three (3) changes of clothing, socks, underwear, pajamas/robe/slippers, etc.

  • Comfortable shoes, tennis shoes, etc. (No open toe shoes, except for shower/pool areas)

  • Bathing suit/trunks/sandals for pool/shower areas

  • Toiletry items (shampoo, soap, deodorant, etc.)

  • White cane (even if not using all the time, must bring cane to KSSB for this event)

*All linens, towels, pillows, etc., are provided by KSSB. Participants may bring their own.*
