Each box contains braille and large print instructions, as well as various age-appropriate materials which are outlined in the Box Contents & Documents. Box A Contents and Documents:

Box A was designed for young children or children who are not reading symbolic print or braille at this time. CAUTION! Box A should only be used under adult supervision due to small pieces presenting a possible choking hazard!

Materials: My First Nursery Rhymes, arts and crafts supplies

Activity: The activity in this box makes use of a story box for the Usborne Book, My First Nursery Rhymes.

Box B Contents and Documents:

Box B was designed for elementary-aged children who love to sing and dance.

Materials: voice-changing microphone, links to online channels, arts and crafts supplies

Activity: The activity in this box provides the opportunity to use a microphone to sing and dance to music on the KidzBop YouTube Channel or the KidzBop Classroom Channel.

Box C Contents & Documents

Box C Contents and Documents:

Box C is designed for middle school and high school students who love music, trivia, and games.

Materials: Name That Tune in card form or list form, arts and crafts supplies

Activity: Stump your friends and family with “Name That Tune”! The activity in this box is a music trivia card game called Name That Tune, with questions and fun challenges. Please note that Box C comes in two separate boxes and can be read from a list or from each individual card.

The KSSB Family Activity Box Committee will send out announcements for fun-filled Back to School Events held via Zoom. Look for dates, times, and more details to arrive in your email. Following are the special events assigned to each box:

Spring 2021 boxes have shipped!

Registration for the fall boxes will begin August 2021!

REGISTER FOR: Family Activity Box (FAB) kits, which focus on fun and engaging ways to practice skills within the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC). Registration is required for each box.

CONTENTS: Each box is curated with your child’s needs in mind and includes braille, large print, or digital information based on your child’s preferred learning mode.  All of the supplies needed for an awesome activity are also included, as well as a special surprise from the KSSB Makerspace. The kits are limited to the first 60 registrants.

ELIGIBILITY*: Children/students, infants-12th grade, living in the state of Kansas and diagnosed with a visual impairment that impacts their ability to access print materials. The student benefits from and uses either braille, large print, or a digital format as his/her primary learning mode as a result of the visual impairment.  In addition, your child must meet the eligibility criteria for visual impairment from the Kansas Department of Education which includes:

  • visual impairment that requires dependence on tactile and auditory media for learning
  • chronic or progressive condition exists which interferes with the visual learning mode

COST: FREE!

SHIPPING: 60 FABs will be sent, three times a year: spring, fall, and winter.
